New car registrations in March have come in ahead of expectations despite the difficult economic climate. The SMMT figures show 366,101 new cars were registered in the month, against an industry forecast of around 360,000 units. The March figures are 7.9% down on the same month last year, but 5.9% up when scrappage units are excluded.
